Well, it's sad to say today is our last day. I. Fact, just a morning safari, breakfast and we're off. We were really hoping to see e big boy today. We also hadn't seen cheetah or hyena. We could do without the hyena, but the cheetah and lions were of major importance to us. We were the first while out, and implored Beth to find the lions this morning. Within 10 minutes of bein on the road, we rounded a corner and came across the entire pride feasting on a fresh kill of blue water buffalo with long curled up. I'm getting goose bumps all over my body and a tear running down my face just thinking about it! There are no words to describe the emotion such an experience can bring! They had obviously been eating for a while, as the water buffalo was almost fully devoured, and the babies had massive, full little bellies. The "big boy" was sitting off to the side as if protecting his family and letting them feast. We sat there for at least 20 minutes watching them feast, play, and just laze about. It was spectacular! The male got back into the ring with the ladies and pulled apart a large portion of buffalo ribs, displaying his large pointed teeth, and demonstrating his unbelievable strength. At one point, he got up, shook his mane at us, and just stared, while a couple of the babies wrestled around on the road in front of us, we were literally 4 feet away! And, one of the females walked up right beside us. The pictures will say more than I could write, so I will upload as many as I can. We spent as long as we could and had loads of photo opps, before heading out.
We drove for a very long time, this time in search of the cheetah. It took quite a while, but our ever trusty tracker and ranger once again pleased us with their ability. We weren't able to get too close to the cheetah because of damage to the soil and attempts to region grass, but we got close enough for a few pictures. Se was very graceful and quiet hiding out in the grass waiting to pounce on her next meal. What a way to round out our trip to Kapama. We're not safari'd out, but we're looking forward to moving on. Off to Johannesburg for a night, hoping to do some laundry, and then to Victoria Falls the following morning.
This place has been amazing. Their number one concern is your comfort, safety and happiness, and they're always sure to please! I found out they are also large supporters of the cheetah project, and the orphaned children of a local tribe, and I know a piece of my heart will be left here.
Ahhh, time to move on I guess!
WOWZA!!! such an amazing trip you guys are having!! i can't wait to set foot in africa! i look forward to sitting down for dinner and wine so we can talk about our trips together. i am in love with belize. i love the fact that there are no fast food restaurants here at all. the only north american brand i see is shell gas stations and oh yeah coca cola but i don't mind that when i'm drenched in sweat and craving a cold one. this country is all about eco tourism and they want to keep it that way. safe travels and have a holly jolly christmas. lots of love, dextor. xo
